Great New Menu at JR’s Bar & Grill in Locust Point

photoJR’s Bar & Grill at 1229 Hull St. in Locust Point has recently undergone some fairly extensive changes. Interior renovations include a new downstairs dining room, an updated kitchen, and a soon-to-open upstairs game room with a pool table and other games. The bar is also now under new ownership, and they have recently started hosting trivia on Tuesdays, as well as karaoke and DJ nights once a month.

Still offering their signature burgers, now also available with turkey and bison, JR’s new menu now also features many new, affordably-priced items. The menu includes appetizers, salads, sliders, sandwiches, crab cakes, steamed shrimp and more.

On a recent visit, we started out with an order of the soft pretzels accompanied by a stout beer cheese dip. The pretzels were large and soft, and the cheese was really delicious (…we wanted to dip just about anything we could find in it.)

Next up was JR’s sliders. With three in an order, we tried their turkey burger, bison burger and crab cake, all of which were great. The burgers were juicy and full of flavor, and the crab cake was up to the standard that has made the Baltimore classic so famous.

Lastly, we tried the Fort McHenry grilled cheese, which comes with JR’s homemade potato chips or fries (we opted for chips). The sandwich featured country-style white bread filled with sweet crab, pepper jack cheese, red peppers and green onions. It was a terrific combination of flavors, hitting you with a nice kick of spice at the end. The homemade chips were also tasty (…and perfect for dipping in the remaining cheese dip.)

We had a really satisfying – and filling – meal at JR’s and look forward to going back sometime very soon.
