Changes at McHenry Row

The space formerly occupied by Charm City Concierge at McHenry Row will soon be the home of The Frame Mender, an eyeglasses frame repair center that also has locations in Rockville, College Park and Washington, DC. Charm City Concierge, which provided services for the residential tenants at McHenry Row, will continue its services for the building, but will operate out of their headquarters at 1437 E. Fort Ave.

Harbor Light Tanning will also be opening soon at McHenry Row.

Videology, a video advertising company started by Scott Ferber, who also started Advertising.com with his brother John Ferber before selling it to AOL, has been based at the office building at McHenry Row with its 150 local employees. Though the heart of the company’s operations will remain in Baltimore, it has named its New York City office as its headquarters according to the Baltimore Business Journal. From the article:

The company named its New York office its headquarters as it looks to grow business overseas. About 50 of Videology’s 350 employees work in New York.

“The geographic center of gravity for advertising and media is New York City, globally — it just is,” said CEO Scott Ferber.

Videology had a revenue of $200 million last year.

Advertising.com Moving to Brewers Hill

Ferber’s former company Advertising.com is making a big move as well. Based at Locust Point’s Tide Point since 2000, it will be moving to the National Bohemian complex in Brewers Hill according to the Baltimore Business Journal. From the article:

A subsidiary of AOL Inc., homegrown Advertising.com has signed a 45,000-square-foot lease at 3700 O’Donnell St., where it will open its new offices in spring 2015. The space in the former National Bohemian complex just north of Canton Crossing is reminiscent of the early 20th century converted manufacturing buildings at Tide Point, which Advertising.com shares with Under Armour Inc.

But after Under Armour Inc. (NYSE: UA) purchased the 400,000-square-foot office complex in 2011, it became clear the sportswear maker’s growth would eventually push out other Tide Point tenants. The company said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing in February that it intends to take over space as it becomes available.

Horseshoe Casino Baltimore Entertains 50,000 Guests on Labor Day Weekend

Horseshoe Casino Baltimore is off to a strong start as it entertained 15,000 guests on its opening night on Tuesday, August 26th and, according to its press release, 50,000 guests from Friday to Monday of Labor Day Weekend. From the release:

“We’re very pleased with the interest we’re seeing not only in the casino but in our great nightlife venues and exceptional restaurants,” said Horseshoe Baltimore Senior Vice President and General Manager Chad Barnhill. “We set out to provide a world-class hospitality experience that goes beyond casino gambling, and the response thus far demonstrates that we have achieved that objective.”

As expected, Horseshoe Baltimore’s location near M&T Bank Stadium has proved to be an asset in the casino’s first days of operations. Many of those who attended Saturday’s Navy-Ohio State football game at M&T Bank Stadium visited the casino prior to or after the game, generating significant business at the slot machines, table games, bars and restaurants.

“We’re off to a very positive start and, despite the strong demand, there are no lines to get into the casino,” Barnhill said. “We look forward to continuing to build on our city-integrated approach by complementing the many great existing attractions throughout Baltimore.”

photoExterior Changes at Don’t Know

The exterior of Don’t Know has a new look as large garage-style windows have been installed at the front of the restaurant at 1453 Light St. in Federal Hill. The garage doors replaced many smaller windows that were formerly at the space.

Large New Lease in Carroll-Camden

Veolia Transportation Services, which operates the Charm City Circulator, has signed a lease for a 197,000 sq. ft. space at 1601 Wicomico St. in the Carroll-Camden Industrial Area. From an article in Baltimore citybizlist:

1601 Wicomico Street is a newly redeveloped, 325,000 square foot industrial facility. Berg Realty, EML Partners and Smith Industries paid $4.4 million to acquire the complex in 2010.

Veolia is the third tenant to take space at 1601 Wicomico in addition to Wingfoot Tire and Everything Warehouse. The property is currently 80% occupied with 70,000 square feet available for lease.

Under Armour Updates

Locust Point’s Under Armour has lost its bid to sign NBA MVP Kevin Durant to a shoe contract. Durant Tweeted out on Monday that he would remain with Nike:

It was reported by multiple outlets that Under Armour was offering Durant a 10-year, $285 million deal, but the Wall Street Journal reported that the new deal with Nike could be worth more than $350 million over the next 20 years.

Under Armour, however, did sign supermodel Gisele Bundchen for its new women’s campaign according to ESPN.com. Bundchen’s husband Tom Brady also has an endorsement deal with Under Armour.
