Pocket Park Coming to Charles and Wells Street

The condition of a vacant city-owned lot at the corner of S. Charles St. and Wells St. has been a topic of conversation at many South Baltimore Neighborhood Association (SBNA) meetings with members of the community seeking improvements for the property.

Chesapeake Realty Partners, owners of the adjacent 2 East Wells and 1901 South Charles developments, has secured a 10-year lease with the city to adopt and maintain the lot. Chesapeake plans to remove the fence facing the alley, a place where trash often piles up; provide and maintain new landscaping and trees on the lot; install benches and dog waste pickup stations; and remove snow during winter months.

“The corner of South Charles and Wells Street is the front door to South Baltimore,” said Josh Fidler, co-chairman of Chesapeake Realty Partners. “We want our front door to reflect the wonderful qualities of our neighborhood and welcome residents and visitors.”

The plan was unanimously approved when presented to SBNA in November of last year.

Chesapeake plans to begin and complete the improvements in early Spring.
