The Baltimore Floatilla 2.5-Mile Paddle Happening at the Inner Harbor on June 8th

| March 6, 2019 | 0 Comments

Healthy Harbor, an initiative of the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore, invites paddlers from across the region to show their support for clean water at the 4th Annual Baltimore Floatilla on Saturday, June 8, 2019 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This year, Waterfront Partnership invites paddlers to “Crab your paddle and show some love for Baltimore wildlife.” Participants are encouraged to decorate their boats, boards and bodies in celebration of their favorite Chesapeake Bay critters (crabs, oysters, great blue heron, etc.).

Both Mr. Trash Wheel and Professor Trash Wheel will attend the event, marking the first time the two trash-eating devices will be seen together. In 2018, 300 paddlers helped raise $10,000 for the Healthy Harbor Initiative, which runs the trash wheels, grows oysters in the Harbor, provides environmental field trips and conducts cleanups in Baltimore neighborhoods.

Experienced paddlers will depart from Canton Waterfront Park and paddle 2.5 miles into the Inner Harbor where they will rally alongside the Trash Wheels and then return to Canton for the MOM’s Organic Market After Party featuring food and music.

Ultimate Watersports will, once again, manage water safety and CBS Radio’s Jon Boesche will be spinning tunes on the water. Speakers from Healthy Harbor, Blue Water Baltimore and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation will share their own favorite Chesapeake Bay animal and underscore the importance of restoring the Harbor and Bay.

Registration includes a safe, fun and supervised paddle and rally, Floatilla commemorative t-shirt, emergency whistle and lunch. Participants with previous paddling experience will be able to reserve on-site kayaks with Ultimate Watersports for an additional fee. The public can register online at until June 4th or when 500 spots are filled.

Early Bird: $30 (March 1st – March 31st)

Advanced: $35 (April 1st – April 30th)

Regular: $40 (May 1st – June 4th)

Lead partners for this year’s event are MOM’s Organic Market, Ultimate Watersports, and Baltimore City Recreation and Parks. Additional partners include the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Baltimore Rowing Club, Outward Bound Baltimore, Blue Water Baltimore, Baltimore Dragon Boat Club, Chesapeake Kayak Adventures, WatersEdge Kayak Club, Canton Kayak Club, Clearwater Mills, LLC, and the Downtown Sailing Center.
