Body in Rhythm Training Opens in Locust Point

Locust Point resident and personal trainer Matt Swiger opened Body in Rhythm Training this month at 1000 E. Key Hwy. in Locust Point. Body in Rhythm takes over a 1,400 sq. ft. space in two garages which were once part of Egan Marine Contracting Co. and later Weller Development Company.

Swiger is an exercise science graduate from Towson University who spent the last 12 and a half years as a personal trainer at Baltimore Country Club. During high school, he was a basketball player and competed in the triple jump, and now he’s an avid golfer.

Swiger said he was initially looking to open a gym in North Baltimore, but saw the ‘for lease’ sign on Key Hwy. after a walk back from Little Havana and inquired about the space. He loved its waterfront location; its indoor and outdoor capabilities with the garage doors, which make it a more comfortable environment during the current COVID-19 pandemic; and the close proximity to his home where he lives with his wife and two daughters. ┬áThe space also has 20 ft. ceilings and ample parking.

Swiger signed a lease in August and began a renovation of the space to transform the garages into a gym. He worked with Waverly Construction, Drenner Concrete Construction, and True Power Solutions on the project.

While construction was in process, Swiger launched his business and began training clients at local parks.

Body in Rhythm offers one-on-one training sessions and group classes capped at four people. It offers full body workouts, as well as programs to work clients back from injuries, programs to help clients working through biomechanical issues, and golf fitness training classes. Body in Rhythm also offers virtual online sessions via Zoom and FaceTime and offers mobile app training through Trainerize for those who prefer a less hands-on approach.

Swiger says he offers training programs so clients can meet particular goals and objectives. He has worked with clients as young as 10 and as old as 92.

Clients can pay for classes and sessions a la carte or in a package. Sessions start at $40.

Members of Body in Rhythm can use the bathroom and locker room in the main office building on the property.

Also in the garages at 1000 E. Key Hwy. is the newly-opened H.I.I.T. and functional fitness gym Capacity Fitness. Swiger said both gyms work well together and offer different programs.
