A mini hurricane, 100 degree heat, power outages and a family emergency didn’t stop South Baltimore from pulling almost 900 lbs of weeds in SouthBMore.com’s inaugural weed pulling competition.  The competition yielded 44 bags of weeds, filled a SUV five times and packed a one-car garage.  On Saturday, June 30th, many different teams took to the streets and pulled as many weeds as they could – and the results were very impressive!

-Third place went to the 1800 Block of Charles St. who removed 200 lbs of weeds in 14 bags from their block.  Their block looked terrific and they won a $50 gift certificate from No Idea Tavern.

-Second place went to the Patapsco Power Pullers who pulled 278 lbs of weeds in 11 bags from the 1400 block of Patapsco St.  This block was an amazing transformation and the group had tons of fun in the process.  They won a $100 gift certificate to No Idea Tavern.

-First place went to Citizens of Pigtown who pulled an amazing 364  lbs of weeds in 17 bags from Lot O on Ostend Street as you enter Pigtown.  This terrific feat is the new record and should be very tough to beat in future competitions.  Congrats to Citizens of Pigtown who won a $150 gift certificate to No Idea Tavern!

Several other teams participated, making huge differences on the 100 block of West Ostend St., the 1800 block of Light St. and several alley’s around SoBo.  Thanks to everyone who helped make the weed pulling competition a huge success that will surely lead to many more in the future.  We encourage all residents and businesses in South Baltimore to always pull weeds and keep South Baltimore looking beautiful.  Many of the participants of our competition can vouch how fun it is to join your neighbors in such a great beautification project.

Thanks again to all of the participants and No Idea Tavern. Also, make sure to keep an ear out for the next competition… and don’t forget to practice in the meantime!
