South Baltimore Development Updates (Photos)

With the amount of construction trucks, scaffolding and dust in South Baltimore right now, let’s take a look at the status of some of the many developments in South Baltimore.

Harbor Square

The finishing touches have been put on ten new townhomes on Fort Ave. and Patapsco St. in South Baltimore in the former home of an abandoned CVS building. All ten homes have been sold and settled. (Before/After)

2 East Wells

The new South Baltimore development on Wells Street featuring 153 apartments, 6,000 square feet of retail and a 260-car parking garage is underway. The existing building, formerly the McCall Warehouse, has been demolished and portions of the property were ground up to be reused on the site. Horseshoe Baltimore

Baltimore City’s first casino is under construction east of Russell St. The footers have been laid for the garage and large steel and concrete structures are popping up as construction moves forward.

photoRiverside Wharf

The Riverside development on Key Hwy. and Lawrence St. is under construction as the foundation has been laid and steel and concrete is rising out of the ground on the property. Walgreens will be occupying the main floor of the property and developer Caves Valley Partners is currently in discussions to lease all but 4,000-5,000 of the 25,000 square feet of available office space.

 

 

photoUM BioPark Proton Treatment Center

The University of Maryland Baltimore is nearing completion on their new $200 million, 110,000 square foot Proton Treatment Center at 850 W. Baltimore St. in SoWeBo at the University of Maryland Bio Park. The facility has also landed a 44,000 square foot lease with Cambridge Innovation Center for a soon-to-be-built building at 873 W. Baltimore St.

 

 

photoCamden Crossing

After a multi-year delay, construction has resumed at Pigtown’s Camden Crossing. Two new buildings featuring 13 new, pre-sold townhomes are nearing completion. Once completed, 129 of the 150 homes planned for the development will be done. Camden Crossing is looking to finish the community in its entirety by end of next year.

 

 

photoUnder Armour Visitor Center

Work is well underway at the Under Armour Visitor Center at their headquarters at Tide Point in Locust Point. The center is taking shape as windows are being installed and completion is expected this fall. The project is part of a 400,000 square foot expansion plan for the sport apparel company’s Locust Point campus.

Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake’s 1200 Ward in Pigtown is moving along as foundation has been laid and framing has begun on the first nine homes of the 18-home development. The Ravens have been a major sponsor of the project and helped the project break ground in May.

 

 

 

Other Updates

Two other projects are underway as the former Globe Brewing Co. building at 1321 Key Hwy. is currently getting demolished. The property will be offered for sale and is located within the new Key Highway Master Plan.

On the site of Irvin H. Hahn Co. in Carroll Camden a large brick building is undergoing a large renovation and expansion. SouthBMore.com has no further information at this time.

Future Updates

Many new projects should be breaking ground soon. New townhomes planned include five at 40 East Randall, 13 at Race St. and Fort Ave., and 53 at Silo Point.

1201 South Charles is scheduled to begin demolition for its project on August 19th.

The construction of three new townhomes on the 1700 block of Marshall St. will also go before the Zoning Board on August 20th.
