Pop Tacos in the Cross Street Market Does Not Disappoint

I, like many, have developed a love for great order-down-the counter Mexican/Tex-Mex food, including custom-built tacos, burritos, bowls, nachos, salads and quesadillas. Places like Chipotle and Qdoba are about as good as chain fast food gets, but I am always looking to support small businesses and try local cuisine.

Elvis was my go-to in South Baltimore for great quick Mexican food, but a couple changes in ownership eventually led to the creation of Brendali Italian Ristorante (…which is also now a SouthBMore.com favorite!) People had always been suggesting Pop Tacos in the Cross Street Market in Federal Hill, but for whatever reason that trip kept alluding me until recently.

I made my first trip to Pop Tacos about a month ago and I’ve been back about five times since. “Wow” was the first thought in my head when I had my first bite of a chicken taco from Pop Tacos. It was bursting with flavor and covered in fresh ingredients, unique spices and delicious salsas. I’ve also had their chicken burrito, which was just as good, and I look forward to trying some of their other meats which get rave reviews on Yelp, as well as their other offerings such as their bowls and quesadillas.

The chicken at Pop Tacos, like all of their meats, are marinated in Korean spices and made fresh (never frozen) on the grill. It is certainly one of the most unique flavors I’ve ever tasted in a taco or burrito. Every time I tell their super friendly staff how good the food is, they all point to the lady behind the grill and tell me, “it is all homemade by her.”

Pop Tacos is officially my new go-to place for quick Mexican food and I’m sure my next trip there will be very soon.

With changes potentially looming for the Cross Street Market, local residents have expressed a desire for longer hours so they have more chances to visit the many vendors at the market. I personally hope that happens because grabbing an order at Pop Tacos on my way to a weeknight Orioles game would be awesome.
