NFK-MD Release:

NKF-MD to Hold “Rappel for Kidney Health” at Baltimore Marriott Waterfront, June 6 & 7

LUTHERVILLE, Md. – The National Kidney Foundation of Maryland (NKF-MD) will hold its fifth annual Rappel for Kidney Health signature event, Friday, June 6, and Saturday, June 7, at Charm City’s tallest hotel, the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront (700 Aliceanna St.).

As the exclusive rappel event occurring annually in the Baltimore metropolitan area, Rappel for Kidney Health invites people of all ages to scale down the 32-story building, from the roof to the fifth floor pool deck. Rappel participants include people with connections to kidney disease, including transplant donors and recipients, as well as adventure seekers, media personalities and other local celebrities.

MarkNKF-MD is providing personal fundraising pages to assist rappel participants in raising the required $1,000 minimum to participate in the event. Once the money is raised, participants will receive an event t-shirt, participate in a training session on event day and a commemorative photo of them in action.

Face painting, a DJ and additional entertainment will be available for family and friends in the landing zone where they can cheer on their loved ones as they rappel and greet them when they reach the pool deck.

For the third year in a row, participants can form teams and be part of a fundraising competition, especially between companies in the same industry. The top five teams, as well as the top five individuals who raise the most money, will be featured on the Rappel for Kidney Health website home page and honored at a thank you reception on Friday, June 6.

“The NKF, on a local and national level, continues to be instrumental in improving the care of patients with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD),” said 2014 Rappel for Kidney Health Event Chair Dr. David Leeser, Chief of Kidney and Pancreas Transplant at University of Maryland Medical Center, who will rappel for the second consecutive year.

Rappel for Kidney Health is an exciting way for Marylanders to support their neighbors with ESRD, and have a life changing Rappel experience,” added Leeser. “With community participation we will support research essential to conquering ESRD.”

Funds raised through Rappel for Kidney Health will directly support NKF-MD’s patient services, education and research efforts in the area of kidney and urinary tract diseases. Historically, Rappel for Kidney Health events have created an unbelievable amount of excitement, drawing more than 250 participants and raising over $440,000.
