Great Plates of Late Around South Baltimore

Buffalo Chicken Grilled Cheese – Delia Foley’s

We all know how good the wings are at Delia Foley’s (voted SouthBMore’s Best!), so when I saw they were doing a buffalo chicken grilled cheese, I knew I had to try it. It did not disappoint – crispy chicken topped with their classic buffalo sauce with Irish cheddar and blue cheese crumbles inside of Texas toast. Yum! We got it with the curly potato wedges, which were also delicious.

Gyro – Federal Hill Carryout

No matter how you say it, gyros have always been a very popular carryout dining item. With many Greek restaurants and carryout restaurants in Baltimore, I keep going back to Federal Hill Carryout in South Baltimore. Their lamb meat is always full of flavor, the tzatziki sauce is overflowing, and the pita is always fresh. Getting their gyro and adding a Greek salad is one of my favorite ways to do carryout in SoBo.

Ramen – Mi & Yu Noodle Bar

Calls for ramen or pho in South Baltimore have been heard for a long time and Mi & Yu Noodle Bar brings the Asian-style soups with a bang. While the concept is simple – pick your meat (buttermilk brined fried chicken, 5-spiced BBQ pork belly, or soy-miso braised short ribs), your noodles (pho, ramen or udon), and your both (spicy kimchi or savory miso, and sometimes beef dashi) – the food is a standout. Mi & & Yu offers up great meats, great flavors and great spice (if that’s what you are looking for). I recently went in with a group of four and got to try a little bit of everything, and it was all very good from the first slurp to the last.

Il Cipolla – Hersh’s

During my most recent trip to Hersh’s Pizza & Drinks, I got the Il Cipolla pizza topped with caramelized onion, house-smoked brisket sausage, grana padano, fontina, and pickled red onion. The brisket had a great smoky flavor and the different style of onion brought a touch of sour and sweet. I would highly recommend giving it a try.

Chicken Boh-Queso – GAME

We recently checked out GAME located next to Horseshoe Casino for some dinner and a few competitive games of air hockey, bubble hockey, and arcade basketball (GAME also has pool tables, ping pong tables, darts, arcade games, and more). For food, we couldn’t pass up the Chicken Boh-Queso, a cheese dip with a hint of jalapeno, fresh chicken, and National Bohemian beer, served with tortilla chips (…they honestly had me at Natty Boh and cheese!) It was flavorful and we soon found ourselves dipping our other food into it as well.
