Baltimore has recently had the privilege of welcoming a new craft brewery to the city. Union Craft Brewing is located in the Woodberry neighborhood of Baltimore, adjacent to the Woodberry Light Rail stop. Within the last few weeks, Union has released its first two beers in keg form to local craft beer bars. These are the only two beers currently available from Union, but more are in the works. The brewery plans to be open for tours and tastings in the near future. Until then, check out their first two offerings at your favorite local craft beer bar. Here is what I
thought of them.
Duckpin Pale Ale – This beer pours a hazy yellow-orange with a quickly dissipating off-white head. It boasts an enticing aroma full of citrus. The hops are very up front in the taste with grassy and mild grapefruit flavors. A big bready backbone keeps the beer smooth. This brew has all the flavor of an IPA at only 5.5% abv.
Balt Altbier– This beer is a light brown coffee color. The aroma is of roasted malts. It has flavors of caramel, mild coffee, and toast. The finish is pleasantly dry, leaving you wanting more. At 5.6% abv, drinking a few more is not a problem.
These are two great initial offerings from Union. I know I’m not the only one looking forward to their future releases.
