Old CVS Project Begins

The old CVS wall of formstone at 20 E. Fort Ave. is finally undergoing a redevelopment after 10 years of vacancy.  The 10 townhome, $2.5 million development is taking place on the corner of Fort Ave. and Patapsco St.  A fence has been put up around the site and a demolition of the building appears to be in place for the near future.  A sign on the building says the demolition would begin on May 10th, but it appears they are stripping the building of valuable materials before that takes place.  Talking to some residents of Fort Ave., they will be very excited to no longer have to stare at this building.

Fort Ave. and Light St. Project Back to Work

The southwest corner of Fort Ave. and Light St. have been bringing down the 1400 block of Light St. for a long time.  The redevelopment of these three buildings that were vacant and blighted for so many years begun many months ago, but there was no action at the site for the last six weeks or so.  It appears construction has reconvened and hopefully they will be removing the ugly particle board wall on the outside of the building soon, which has been graffitied and then painted over… not such a nice look.  The project is slated to be apartments and a store front space.

1901 South Charles, Luxury not Low Income

I thought I did my best to clear the rumors that 1901 South Charles Street was low income housing, but according to my realtor, it is still really worrying many buyers in the southern end of the peninsula. I have been assured by the developers, leasing agency, Councilman Cole and Clark Construction that it is all “market rate,” not low income.  HUD is very involved in low income housing, but they also insure some of the nicest urban buildings throughout the country. 1111 Light Street and McHenry Row also have HUD involvement, only their HUD sign is not as visible as 1901’s which sits on the corner of Wells and Charles St.  I hope this is the last time I have to hear this rumor… spread the word!

The building features 193 luxury apartments, 290 parking spots and some great amenities.  I got a tour of the building about a month ago and I think it will be a great addition the neighborhood.  Definitely contact them if you are looking for a new place!

Tax Sale at Cafe Calypso

Earlier in the week SouthBMore.com reported that Cafe Calypso on Washington Blvd. in Pigtown was having an issue with their liquor license and we have been informed that there will be a Baltimore City Tax Auction on May 21st for the property.  It appears there have been issues with the liquor license renewal, as well as the real estate taxes, which is an issue with the building and not the establishment.  Hopefully the Cafe Calypso owners can survive the issue with the property or land on their feet.
