Knockout Fitness Opens
A new fitness center called Knockout Fitness has opened on Light St. at the old location of Poptronics. From the description on their Facebook page:
We offer a variety of classes and training programs built for weight loss, strength building, core work, athletic enhancement, boxing competition, and confidence. Some of the classes we offer are boxfit (an hour workout that uses boxing training in combination with circuit training to burn calories and tone muscle.) Also offer boxing 101 to learn boxing basics and fundamental technique. Spartan class is an advanced training class for athletes.
This should be a nice addition to our fitness crazy area.
Retail Space Renovations
-A retail and residential property owned by Shofer’s Furniture is currently undergoing an extensive renovation at 901 S. Charles St. The property is on the same block as Metropolitan.
–Happy Times came and went with a blaze of controversy and it now appears their former location at 920 Light St. is also undergoing renovations as a permit is in the window.
-SouthBMore.com has reported many times on the large property and storefront on the NW corner of Fort Ave. and Light St. Thankfully the temporary plywood facade, which was graffitied many times, has finally been taken down and the new facade is being framed in. They have also installed new windows and have completed a pretty colorful paint job on the cornice and window sills. It looks like new retail spaces will be created for anywhere from 1-3 businesses.
Ole Federal Hill Liquors License Transfer Approved
According to the Baltimore City Liquor Board Docket from July 19th, the Ole Federal Hill Liquors transfer was approved from 1238 Light St. to 1230 Light St. 1230 Light St. is the old location of Bay Vanguard Federal Savings Bank. Their new location will definitely not be as wide as their current location, but the property is two stories as opposed to one. I’m sure 1230 Light St. will be eyed for redevelopment as it is a three rowhouse wide property in a prime location.
More New Townhomes?
If we are still in a recession, it is not apparent by the amount of real estate investment on the South Peninsula right now. Many new apartment buildings have just been completed, several others have just been announced and new townhomes have come back strong after a long absence. It was several years since we last saw new townhomes constructed in the area and it looks like we could get our third new townhome development in the last few months. This will join Harbor Square the the 4 townhome development on Light St.
A large garage property on East Randall St., last used as a cleaners, has recently been sold and I’m told this property is also hoping to become new townhomes. The property has been vacant and rundown for many years, so it will great to finally see new investment on this property.
